Food puzzles are a great way to keep your pet's mind active, and their bodies too. Food puzzles are toys that contain food. Your pet can have part or all of a meal placed into food puzzles. Your pet paws or moves the toy to get food out. You can purchase food puzzles at your local pet store. You can also make your own food puzzles.

Food Puzzles You Can Make

Kleenex box

Save an empty Kleenex box. Put your pet's food in the Kleenex box. Place the box on the floor and watch your pet try to get the food out. Always keep an eye on your pet while using this food puzzle. He or she may chew pieces off and swallow them.

     

                                                                                         
Water bottle

Save an empty water bottle. Put your pet's food inside the bottle. Leave the cap off of the bottle. Place the bottle on the floor and watch your pet try to get the food out. Always keep an eye on your pet while using this food puzzle. He or she may chew the plastic and swallow pieces.


Jean knot

Cut the leg off of an old pair of blue jeans. Put a few pieces of food inside the pant leg, in the middle. Tie the pant leg around the pieces. Tie it loosely at first and tie it tighter as your dog gets better at untying it. Place the knotted jean on the floor and watch your pet try to untie the leg and get the food out. Always keep an eye on your pet while using this food puzzle. He or she may chew the material and swallow pieces.

Tennis ball

Use a pair of scissors to cut a hole into a tennis ball. Put some of your pet's food into the ball. Place the ball on the floor and watch your pet knock it around and get food out. Always keep an eye on your pet while using this food puzzle. He or she may chew pieces off and swallow them.
